Meet Coach Jack
Hi, I’m John Croom, but everyone calls me Jack. Cycling has been part of my life since I began road cycling and racing while attending the University of Oklahoma in 1983.
Over the years, I’ve competed across several cycling disciplines, including road racing, criteriums, track racing, time trials, cyclocross, and gravel. While living in Golden, Colorado from 2010–2022, I became a Category 2 cycling coach and worked with individual athletes as well as serving one season as a volunteer coach with the Colorado School of Mines cycling team.
Today, I’m a USA Cycling Category 3 Coach specializing in road and gravel cycling, with gravel being where I spend much of my own riding time these days.
Who I Coach
You don’t have to be an experienced racer to benefit from coaching.
I enjoy working with new and developing cyclists of all ages, whether your goal is to enter your first race, become stronger on group rides, improve your endurance, or simply become a better and more confident cyclist.
I can help athletes interested in:
Road Cycling
Gravel Cycling
Road Racing & Criteriums
Building Fitness & Endurance
Heart Rate–Based Training
Power-Based Training
Race Preparation
New Cyclist Development
Coaching Approach
My goal is simple: help you become a stronger cyclist and enjoy the process of getting there.
I have experience developing training around both power and heart rate data. Athletes working with me will need at minimum a heart rate monitor and a TrainingPeaks account. Coaching is offered for a monthly fee, with the training approach built around the individual athlete’s experience, schedule, and goals.
I coach because I love cycling and enjoy helping others discover what they’re capable of on the bike.
Youth Athletes
I’m happy to work with younger cyclists as well. In accordance with SafeSport requirements, when working with a minor, a parent or legal guardian must be included in email communications from the very beginning and throughout the coaching relationship.
